Shawn Long, who signed with Mississippi State’s basketball team but left it last month, is transferring to Louisiana-Lafayette, the Daily Advertiser reported Thursday.
Long, a 6-foot-10 forward from Morgan City, La., never suited up for the Bulldogs except for the team’s European exhibition tour in August. He was on “personal leave,” according to MSU, before finally leaving the program.
The Advertiser reports that Long wanted to be closer to his ill mother and infant son.
Long is already practicing with UL-Lafayette, which recruited him hard out of high school. He will be eligible to play for the Ragin’ Cajuns following the 2012 fall term, although he has filed for a hardship waiver to play at the start of next season.
Lafayette is coached by Tupelo native Bob Marlin.
