Florida gun: Florida freshman forward Greg Stolt came off the bench to hit two surprise 3-pointers late in the game to help the Gators remain close.

The 6-foot-8 Stolt hit his first uncontested trey to cut State’s lead to 55-54 with 4 minutes, 59 seconds remaining. Two minutes later, he connected again to trim the Bulldogs’ lead to 59-58.

“That 55 (Stolt) stepped up and hit some big shots,” State guard Marcus Bullard said. “We didn’t expect that.”

Dicky V’s coming: ESPN’s Dick Vitale will be at the MSU bookstore in the student union for a book signing between 2 and 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. Vitale will be signing his new book titled “Holding Court.”

Dog bites: MSU has now won eight straight regular season games against SEC East opponents. … MSU coach Richard Williams is now 4-4 coaching against Florida’s Lon Kruger. … The Bulldogs’ six-game road trip was their longest since 1987-88.
