Football practice starts in Tupelo

– The Golden Wave practiced twice Monday morning and plans call for two-a-day workouts through Friday.
“It was a pretty good first day,” coach Eric Collins said. “Of course, first days are always pretty good. Everbody’s excited.”
Class 6A Tupelo, which opens its season Aug. 28 with a road trip to New Hope, has a scrimmage against West Point scheduled for Aug. 14 at Golden Wave Field. The time is tentatively set for 6 p.m.

– Tupelo Christian Prep welcomed 22 players Monday morning for its first fall practice as a member of the MHSAA.
Eagles coach Aubrey Boren expects to have a 25-player roster in camp by the end of the week.
“We went over our base stuff and worked on timing on offense,” he said. “Defensively, we worked on getting to their spots. We stressed fundamentals and hustle.”
TCPS, a Class 1A independent, opens its season Aug. 21 with a game at Mantachie.
