CLEVELAND — Delta State University plans to honor its former head basketball coach Margaret Wade with a life-size statue.

The Bolivar Commercial reports that the statue for the former Lady Statesmen coach will be presented during the upcoming basketball season.

As coach of the Lady Statesmen, Wade led the college to three straight AIAW National Championships from 1975-77. During that stretch, the Lady Statesmen posted a record of 93-4. In her career at Delta State University, she had an all-time record of 157-23.

The award for the top collegiate women’s basketball player is named after her. She was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1985 and the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in 1999.

Wade died at the age of 82 on February 12, 1995.
