STARKVILLE – Mississippi State University women's basketball coach Sharon Fanning has announced the hiring of Nitra Perry as assistant coach on the Lady Bulldog coaching staff. The hire is pending the approval of the state board of trustees.
Perry, a familiar face within the MSU women's basketball program, returns to her alma mater after serving as an administrative assistant with the Georgia Tech program for the last two seasons. She was a four-year letterwinner for Fanning from 1996-2000.
During her tenure wearing the Maroon and White, Perry earned honorable mention all-SEC recognition in 1999 and 2000. She was also named to the 2000 SEC All-Tournament team. She ranks 12th on the school's all-time scoring chart with 1,124 career points and fifth on the rebound list. Perry holds a degree in education from MSU.
Perry was a member of three Lady Bulldog squads to reach postseason play, two trips to the NCAA tournament and a WNIT invite. During her senior campaign in 2000, she helped State to a program-best 24 wins and a run to the SEC Tournament championship game.
