Ray Costict, Mississippi State’s all-time leading tackler, died Tuesday in Florida.
An MSU official confirmed the death of Costict, who was 56. The Moss Point native played for the Bulldogs from 1973-76, recording 467 career tackles at linebacker.
He began his college career as a fullback but was then moved to linebacker. He was remarkably consistent, making 156 tackles in 1974, 155 the next season, and then 156 as a senior. He was named all-SEC each of his last season two seasons.
Costict spent three seasons with the New England Patriots of the NFL.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
