Former MSU catcher lands in Orioles lineup

Former Mississippi State catcher Craig Tatum, rescued off waivers in the offseason, will start the second half of the season as the Baltimore Orioles’ everyday catcher.
Switch-hitting Orioles catcher Matt Wieters was placed on the 15-day disabled list Thursday with a hamstring strain and will be out until at least July 25.
The 27-year-old Tatum, whom the Orioles claimed off waivers from the Cincinnati Reds in November, is batting .246 (15-for-61) with five RBIs. He started three of four games before the All-Star break and is 10-9 as a starter this season.
A Hattiesburg native, Tatum was a third-round draft pick by the Reds in 2004. He’s a career .190 hitter.
