Former Mississippi State fullback and strength and conditioning coach Marcus Bush died Sunday following a lengthy battle with colon cancer.

Bush, 48, had served the past 11 years as a strength and conditioning coach for the football and women’s basketball teams at UAB.

The Starkville native lettered four years for the Bulldogs from 1985-88, playing for both Emory Bellard and Rockey Felker. Bush was on the academic honor roll during four semesters during his time at MSU.

Bush also served on the Bulldogs’ strength staff as a grad assistant from 1993-94, working with the women’s basketball team, men’s and women’s tennis teams and men’s and women’s track teams.

In high school, Bush led Starkville to its first state football championship as a senior in 1984 and also claimed the North State title in the 100 meters in track that year.

Funeral services will be held at Calvary Baptist Church in Starkville on Saturday.
