BOONEVILLE – Former Northeast Mississippi Community College wide receiver Josh Jarboe made an impact in Booneville during his one year with the Tigers.
Now, Jarboe is garnering national recognition with the Arkansas State Red Wolves.
Jarboe was recently named to the watch list for the 2011 Biletnikoff Award that ispresented annually to the nation’s most outstanding college football receiver.
Jarboe joins current Red Wolves teammate Dewayne Frampton who was named to the list prior to the start of the 2011 season.
During the 2010 season, Jarboe helped lead the Tigers to a 5-4 record and a tie for the runner-up spot in the North Division of the Mississippi Association of Community/Junior Colleges (MACJC).
In 2010, Jarboe hauled in 42 passes for 495 yards – 11.8 yards per catch average – and a pair of scores while leading the Tigers in receiving five different times during the nine-game season including his last three games as a Tiger.
Currently, Jarboe is second on the team to Frampton with 30 catches and 413 yards. Frampton, a senior, has 47 catches for 606 yards – 12.9 yards a catch and three scores.
Jarboe is averaging 13.8 yards a catch and has a pair of scores – both coming against the University of Memphis.
In his breakout performance against Memphis on September 10, Jarboe helped lead the Red Wolves to a 47-3 win over the Tigers and was selected as one of nine wide receivers to receive honorable mention status for the College Football Performance Awards’ Wide Receiver of the Week award.
Against the Tigers, Jarboe hauled in seven passes for 162 yards and a pair of touchdowns. His 162 yards ranked Jarboe in the top 10 at Arkansas State in single-game performances. Jarboe’s 162 yards receiving were the most by an Arkansas State player since the turn of the century.
Arkansas State is off to a 4-2 start to the season – including winning their last three games against Central Arkansas (53-24) on September 24 and back-to-back Sun Belt Conference against Western Kentucky (26-22) on October 1 and against Louisiana-Monroe (24-19) on October 8.
The recipient of the 2011 Biletnikoff Award will be announced live on ESPN on The Home Depot College Football Awards on Thursday, December 8th.
