Former THS star Rutledge leads Samford to victory

BIRMINGHAM – Lex Rutledge, a sophomore from Tupelo, pitched seven strong innings on Saturday as Samford beat Georgia Southern 9-2.
Rutledge (4-1) gave up two runs on four hits in seven innings, striking out seven and walking four. The Bulldogs (15-6, 5-0 Southern Conference) have won nine games in a row.
Last season, the lefty Rutledge was Samford’s closer and tied a school record with 11 saves. He 2-0 in league starts this season.
Samford will visit Ole Miss on Tuesday night.
