JACKSON – Nettleton will try to put the wraps on a perfect season with a pair of wins against Southeast Lauderdale in today’s MHSAA Class 3A slow-pitch softball state finals at Jackson’s V.A. Fields.
The Lady Tigers (26-0) are one of four teams from Northeast Mississippi playing for state titles beginning at 11 this morning.
In fact, three of those four teams, including the Lady Tigers, hail from Monroe County.
In the smaller classifications, Hatley plays Enterprise 5 (Class 2A) and Smithville takes on Stringer (Class 1A).
The one team outside of Monroe County in the Daily Journal’s coverage area taking the field in Jackson is Corinth, which takes on defending champion and undefeated Newton County for the Class 4A state championship.
Smithville advanced to the Class 1A championship series late Thursday night with a thrilling 27-24, seven-inning victory over Myrtle in three games. The Lady Seminoles hit a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the seventh to take the back-and-forth contest that went past the Daily Journal’s print deadline.
