Friday Roundup: Shumpert rolls, Indians improve to 8-0

Running back Ashton Shumpert rushed for 216 yards on 14 carries and scored four touchdowns Friday to lead Itawamba AHS to a 42-13 Division 1-4A road win against Pontotoc.
Shumpert’s rushing touchdowns covered 31, 65 and 68 yards. He also returned a punt 65 yards for a TD.
IAHS, (8-0, 3-0) which remained unbeaten, also got TDs on a pair of 2-yard runs by quarterback Tyler Dossett.
Indians running back Charles Moore added 109 yards rushing on 11 carries and scored one 2-point conversion.
Pontotoc (4-5, 1-2) scored the game’s first points on a 10-yard pass to Michael Walters from Marcus Reed. In the third quarter, Walters caught a 2-yard pass Reed.
Corinth 61, Tishomingo County 19: Corinth ended a two-game losing streak with a convincing Division 1-4A win. The Warriors (6-2, 1-2) piled up 605 yards total offense – 336 rush, 269 pass – against the Braves (3-6, 0-3).
QB Brady Allen had TD passes of 20 and 58 yards to Brice Spence, and a 92-yard scoring strike to Antonio Davis.
Also for the Warriors, Jose Contreras returned a pass interception 24 yards for a TD, and Antares Gwyn had a 73-yard punt return for a score.
Potts Camp 41, East Union 20: The Cardinals, behind the running of Jamarcus Foster, improved to 7-1 overall with their non-division win.
Foster scored the game’s first TD on a 6-yard run. He added 7-yard and 35-yard rushing TDs.
Jordan Harris scored on a 65-yard run for Potts Camp.
Jacob Elder caught a 29-yard pass from D.J. Armstrong, and R.J. Montgomery had a 46-yard run for TDs for East Union (3-4).
Calhoun City 20, Okolona 6: Chakel Gates, Jordan Pratt and Lavarious Varnado all scored TDs for the Wildcats in their Division 1-2A win.
Gates and Pratt scored on 4-yard runs, while Varnado had a 16-yard scamper for Calhoun City (5-4, 2-1). Jacolbi Heard had a 1-yard TD run for Okolona (3-6, 1-2).
Oxford 31, Hernando 0: K.T. McColin returned a blocked punt and Nick Brown caught a 50-yard pass from Jack Abraham for touchdowns to lead the unbeaten Chargers to their Division 1-5A win.
Oxford (8-0, 4-0) also got a 41-yard field goal from Cody Mills, a 14-yard TD run from Collin Le and a 3-yard TD run from Conrey Meagher.
Falkner 39, TCPS 14: Jase Stroupe and Jeramie Lawrence scored two TDs apiece to lead the Eagles (7-1, 4-1) to a 1-1A win.
Stroupe’s scoring runs covered 2 and 79 yards, while Lawrence has TD runs of 3 and 70 yards.
Charlie Forrest had a 1-yard TD run and Kyle Gray caught a 13-yard scoring pass from Clay Knight for TCPS (0-8, 0-5).
Walnut 49, Hatley 12: Devonte Bell rushed for 147 yards and scored TDs on runs of 20, 21 and 48 yards to lead the Wildcats (3-6, 1-2) to a 1-2A win.
Shawn Thornton opened the scoring for Walnut, catching a 24-yard TD strike from Dillon Barnes. Sidney Spells caught a 10-yard TD pass from Will Quinn, and Preston Leake added a 15-yard return of a fumble.
For Hatley (0-8, 0-3), Derrick Hampton caught a 28-yard TD pass from John Taylor. Josh Trimble added a 3-yard score.
Vardaman 55, Biggersville 20: QB Cody Jenkins scored on runs of 5, 9 and 35 yards and threw a TD pass for 20 yards to Tae West to lead the Rams to a 1-1A win.
Vardaman (5-3, 5-0) got two TDs from Dante Walker, one on a 3-yard run and the other on a 30-yard interception return.
Booneville 39, Holly Springs 7: Zues Rogers scored three TDs to lead the Blue Devils (6-2, 3-0) to a 1-3A win.
Rogers had scoring runs of 13 and 53 yards. He also caught a 16-yard TD pass from Jack Simpson.
Starkville 42, Canton 0: Jaquez Horsley scored TDs on runs of 14 and 32 yards to lead the Yellowjackets to their Division 2-5A victory.
Starkville scored its first points on a 23-yard pass from Gabe Myles to Princeton Jones.
Belmont 40, Alcorn Central 8: Alexander Fancher scored on runs of 7 and 53 yards to lead the Cardinals (5-2, 2-1) to a 1-3A victory.
