Fulton's Riley stands third as State Am gets underway

JACKSON – Rickey Riley of Fulton and Alex Rowland of Houston were both under par on Thursday as the State Amateur Championship got under way at the Country Club of Jackson.
Riley, an insurance salesman and basketball referee, shot a 2-under 70 and is in third place, two strokes behind Steve Wilson of Ocean Springs. Rowland, who plays at ICC, shot a 71 and is tied for fourth place, a stroke ahead of Ole Miss standout Jonathan Randolph of Brandon.
Ramey of Fulton and Fletcher Johnson of Belden are tied for seventh with Randolph at 72. Ramey, of Class 4A champion Itawamba AHS, is a Mississippi State signee; Johnson plays at Tupelo High School.
MSU coach Clay Homan is tied for 19th after a round of 74.
