FULTON – Sophomore shortstop and Ole Miss signee John Gatlin (Tupelo HS) was named to the National Junior College Athletic Association All-Region 23 team and Mississippi Association of Community and Junior College All-State first team to highlight five members of the ICC baseball team earning postseason honors on Tuesday as selected by NJCAA Region 23 and MACJC coaches.
Gatlin batted .334 and led the team .470 on-base percentage as well as of five other offensive categories to go along with a 2-0 record with a save and 2.57 ERA in six appearances on the mound for the Indians this season.
Joining Gatlin on the MACJC All-State first team was sophomore pitcher and third baseman Nathan Flanagan (Tupelo HS), while second team honors went to sophomore right-handed pitcher Luke Hargett (Itawamba AHS), freshman utility player Dillon Mitchell (Itawamba AHS), and freshman designated hitter Jake Smithey (Pontotoc HS).
The Indians finished the season 27-19 and made their ninth-straight state championship under head coach Rick Collier.
