Tupelo held off a late charge Wednesday from Jackson Prep and Madison Central to win the 36-hole Gator Invitational at the Country Club of Jackson.
The Golden Wave finished with a two-day total of 614 to defeat Jackson Prep by one stroke. Tupelo led by eight strokes after the first day.
“We didn’t play our best today, but we found a way to get it done,” coach Mark Enis said. “I’m proud of our guys. They got out there and competed with some of the best in Mississippi.”
Hayden Buckley led the Wave with a 5-over-par 77. Daniel Purnell recorded a 79, Austin Rose an 80 and Miles Johnson an 80.
Also for Tupelo, Blake Harris and Kirk Reeder shot 82s. Baldwyn’s Clayton Gray shot an 82 playing as an individual.
