STARKVILLE – The Tupelo tennis team had five courts (two singles, three doubles) qualify on Wednesday for the MHSAA Class 5A individual state tournament May 4-5 in Jackson.
Qualifying for the state tournament took place at Starkville High School.
Golden Wave junior Jonathan Doles qualified in boys singles, and Tupelo senior Catherine Holliday qualified in girls singles after beating Emily Turner of Starkville 6-1, 6-1.
In boys No. 1 doubles, Jeff Hamm and Aaron Hildenbrand qualified after defeating Starkville’s Andrew Moorhead and Mo Wahidi 6-3, 7-5, and Grenada’s Lawson Harlow and Thomas Braswell 6-3, 7-5.
And in boys No. 2 doubles, Chris White and Drew Toppin qualified after knocking off George Liao and Kyler Rendon of Starkville, and Guy Braswell and Winston Lee of Grenada.
On the girls side, Mandy Collins and Tate Davis qualified thanks to victories over Starkville’s Claire Crawford and Sarah Morse and Grenada’s Mara Smith and Josey Frazier.
