It sounds like there will be a fast field for Saturday’s Gum Tree 10k in downtown Tupelo.
There are about 600 runners already registered, but the turnout will soar – with both serious runners and 2k fun runners – before the race begins at 8:30 a.m. on Main Street.
Former Ole Miss distance standout Barnabas Kirui is expected to make his first appearance. The runner-up at last year’s Corinth 10k, he didn’t get a chance to run last year’s Gum Tree because he was busy picking up his Ole Miss degree.
The women’s winner at Corinth, former MSU standout Tiffany Dudley, is already registered, while Corinth men’s winner Josh Whitehead said he may run as well.
We’ll know more about the field of elite runners later in the week
