Guntharp replaces Shinall as coach at Pine Grove

PINE GROVE – After nine seasons, Chris Shinall stepped down as head baseball coach at Pine Grove with Hatley’s Mark Guntharp taking his place.
The South Tippah School Board approved the hiring at its latest meeting.
Shinall, who teaches U.S. history at Pine Grove, will continue to serve as the school’s athletic director and slowpitch softball coach.
Guntharp, 46, who spent the last 11 seasons as Hatley’s head coach, has over 23 years of coaching experience, including stops at Itawamba AHS and Mooreville. He will teach special education at Pine Grove.
Shinall and assistant Garrett Mauney were named the 2011 Division 1-1A Coaching Staff of the Year.
