Southaven (5-1) at Tupelo (1-4)
NOTE: This game has been moved to Monday at 7 p.m.
– Division 1-6A records: Southaven 1-1, Tupelo 1-1.
– Rankings: None.
– This week: Tonight’s Division 1-6A game is crucial for both schools to remain in the postseason chase. Tupelo lost 14-7 last week to rival Starkville while Southaven defeated Columbus 14-6 for its first division win.
– Recent history: The Golden Wave has won three straight from the Chargers, including last season’s 41-14 victory at Southaven.
– Tupelo: The Golden Wave committed five turnovers in last week’s loss to Starkville, including a fumble that was returned for a TD. … QB Nathan Wallace has completed 38 of 69 passes for 421 yards and 1 TD. … WRs Jeremy Foster and Terrell Pinson have combined for 42 pass receptions and 491 yards. … LB Damion Dillard recorded 9 solo and 4 assisted tackles against Starkville. He has 38 total tackles this season. … LB Chris Donald leads the team with 47 tackles.
– Southaven: QB Dominique Harris is a double threat. He has completed 57 of 101 passes for 925 yards and 12 TD. He’s added 205 yards rushing and 2 TD. … WR Jeremy Reed has caught 20 passes for 334 yards and 7 TDs, including a 33-yard scoring grab against Columbus. … The Chargers are averaging 29.5 points per game.

Amory (1-6)at Noxubee County (6-1)
Note: Game moved to 5 p.m. Saturday.
– Division 4-4A records: Amory 1-0, Noxubee County 1-0.
– Rankings: Noxubee County is ranked third in Class 4A by the AP.
– This week: Amory is playng one of the state’s hardest schedules. The Panthers have already played the likes of Itawamba AHS, New Hope, Aberdeen, Shannon and Pontotoc. Now, they face the defending Class 4A state champs.
– Recent history: Haven’t played in the last three seasons.
– Amory: QB Forest Williams is 38 for 59 passing for 462 yards and 1 TD. … RB Jore’el Freeman has 67 rushes for 248 yards and 2 TDs. … WR Josh Andress has 9 receptions for 112 yards and 1 TD. … LB Channing French has 60 tackles, 4 TFL, 1 sack, 2 pass deflections, 1 forced fumble and 1 fumble recovery.
– Noxubee County: Amory coach Pat Byrd says Noxubee is similar to Shannon defensively, but is not as big. He says Noxubee is the fastest team he has seen in a long time. … Byrd says Noxubee will mix it up, but likes to pound inside with its three good RBs. … WR/QB/CB Vincent Sanders (6-3, 190), who’s capable of scoring any time he touches the ball, missed four games because of a fractured jaw.

Baldwyn (1-5)at Walnut (5-1)

– Rankings: Walnut is No. 1 in the Journal’s small school rankings.
– This week: Baldwyn officially began its defense of its Class 2A state championship by defeating Calhoun City 35-7 last week. Walnut suffered its first loss of the season to Booneville on Sept. 28, and then four days later knocked off Bruce 34-12.
n Recent history: Baldwyn has won the last two meetings by a large margin, defeating the Wildcats 44-0 last year and 31-0 two years ago.
– Baldwyn: QB Tanner Gaines has completed 46 of 118 passes for 536 yards, 3 TDs and 4 INTs. He has rushed 42 times for 184 yards and 1 TD. … RB Tyler Estes has 44 carries for 181 yards and 2 TDs. … LB Devin Lindsey leads the team with 87 tackles, has 1 INT and is tied for the team lead in sacks (4.5) with DL Jordan Cobb.

– Rankings: Corinth is ranked third in the Daily Journal’s Class 3A rankings, while Belmont is ranked fourth.
– This week: Belmont will be tested when an always good Corinth team comes to town.
– Recent history: Haven’t played in the last three seasons. In fact, it’s the first meeting between the two teams since 1932, when Corinth won 32-0. Says the Daily Corinthian’s Lee Smith, “That’s also the only meeting I can find all-time, although complete results from prior 1926 games are sketchy.”
– Corinth: QB Parks Frazier has completed 89 of 174 attempts for 1,238 yards, 10 TDs and 4 INTs, while rushing 58 times for 198 yards and 4 TDs. … WR Diante Curlee has 35 catches for 531 yards and 7 TDs. He also has 2 INTs on defense, returning all 2 for TDs. He has scored 1 rushing TD. … DB Deonta Herman leads the team in tackles with 57 (38 solo).

– This week: TCPS beat H.W. Byers in its first independent division game, while independent division foe Houlka defeated Jumpertown twice this season in the Cardinals’ division games.
n Recent history: Haven’t played in the last three seasons. In fact, it’s the young football programs’ first meeting.
– Jumpertown: QB Dustin Jones is 14 for 36 passing for 291 yards, 2 TDs and 6 INTs. Head coach Jay McGee says his team has thrown as much in three games as TCPS throws in one game. … RB Josh Mullins has carried 40 times for 281 yards and 1 TD, while fellow back Lee Pitts has 51 carries for 349 yards and 2 TDs. Pitts also has 6 catches for 72 yards and 1 TD. … Tonight’s game is one of five varsity games the Cardinals’ startup program will be playing this season. … The Cardinals have been outscored 122-12 this season.
– Tupelo Christian: QB Will Cockrell has completed 86 of 165 passes for 893 yards, 4 TDs and 6 INTs. He has rushed 55 times for 237 yards and 4 TDs. … RB Braxton Melancon has 43 carries for 151 yards and 3 TDs. He has 35 receptions for 448 yards and 2 TDs. – This week: North Pontotoc, in its first season in 4A, is being initiated by playing the Division 1-4A powerhouses, Itawamba AHS and Shannon.
– Recent history: Haven’t played in the last three seasons.
– North Pontotoc: QB Brandon Bailey has completed 65 of 128 passes for 844 yards, 5 TDs and 6 INTs. He has rushed 60 times for 300 yards and 3 TDs. … RB Joe Robbins has 94 rushing attempts for 450 yards and 5 TDs. … WR Jeremy Berry has 26 catches for 341 yards (13.12 yards per catch) and 2 TDs.

– This week: This game, originally scheduled for tonight in Booneville, has been postponed to Monday at 7 p.m. in Booneville. Ripley is coming off a tough division-opening loss to Corinth, 42-41.
– Recent history: Ripley has won the last two meetings, with Booneville squeaking out a 20-18 win in 2006. The last three meetings have been decided by 10 points or less.
– Ripley: RB Rashid March has rushed 42 times for 216 yards (5.14 yards per carry) and 5 TDs in two games since returning from injury. … QB Acie Vance has rushed for 340 yards and 7 TDs out of the Tigers’ wing-T offense.

n Recent history: Pontotoc won 21-14 last year, but it was Tishomingo County winning the 2007 and 2006 contests, 12-7 and 42-0, respectively.
