Itawamba RB Shumpert cleared to play tonight
Itawamba AHS senior 4-star athlete Ashton Shumpert will be on the field for the first time this season tonight at Senatobia. He was cleared early Thursday morning.
Shumpert has been sidelined through the Indians first three games while recovering from the effects of mono. IAHS is 3-0 and coming off of a bye week. He has yet to take contact this season.
“I’m just ready to play,” Shumpert said, then smiled. “It’s been a while. I’m full speed and ready to play.”
Shumpert added another offer to his list this week with the addition of Southern Miss. The Golden Eagles are the 10th suitor on a list that includes Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Oklahoma State, Vanderbilt, Georgia, Purdue, Alabama, Memphis and Alcorn State.
He was in attendance for Mississippi State’s win against Auburn last week and plans to be in Oxford tomorrow for the Rebels’ game against No. 14 Texas.
“I’m anxious to hit,” Shumpert said.

Hatley junior swinging big
Hatley junior outfielder Courtney Roberts is knocking the cover off the balli. Roberts is hitting .760 so far this season for the defending Class 2A North champion Lady Tigers. She has five home runes and 14 RBI. Hatley entered Thursday night’s Division 1-2A game at Hamilton with a 6-3, 3-0 record.

Amory High swimmers qualify for north state
Amory High School’s swim team had three swimmers and two relay teams qualify for this season MHSAA North State swim meet at a recent qualifying meet in Oxford.
Brock Balducci and Walker Todd swam qualifying times in the 200 individual medley and the 500 freestyle. Jordan Robbins qualified with his clocking in the 100 freestyle.
Amory’s 200-freestyle “A” and “B” relay teams also qualified. Balducci, Will Corey, Drew Huffman and Todd were on the “A unit while Tucker Robbins, Hayden Plunkett, Sam Wilkerson and Jordan Robbins were “B” unit members.
The North Mississippi meet is scheduled for Oct. 20 in Jackson.

Tupelo High in C Spire Contest

MAC All-Star rosters released
The rosters for the Mississippi Association of Coaches All-Star Slowpitch Softball Games have been released. The games are schedule for Oct. 27 at Newton County High School with a format that pits Class 1A/2A/3A North against South and 4A/5A/6A North against South. T
Houlka coach Vicki Homan will coach the Class 1A/2A/3A North team. New Albany coach Shane Sanderson will coach 4A/5A/6A North. The rosters are listed on page two.

Smithville hosting run/walk to benefit softball squad
Registration for the Second Annual Lady Noles EF-5K Run/Walk and t-shirt pickup is scheduled for 7 a.m. Saturday at Lady Nole Field. The run is schedule for an 8 a.m. start.
Participants can also register online beforehand at racesonline.com or at B-Train and the Barber Shop in Amory.
The registration fee is $20 before the day of the race and $25 on race day with all proceeds going to the Lady Noles softball team.
Awards will be given to the top three males and females in each age group.
