Shumpert taking official to Georgia
Itawamba AHS 4-star back Ashton Shumpert plans to take his official visit to Georgia Saturday as the No. 5 Bulldogs take on Tennessee.
Georgia is one of 10 offers on the table for the senior. Another Bulldog coach is keeping tabs too.
“I talked to Coach Mullen (Wednesday) night. He called to talk to me about the game last week,” Shumpert said.
The Mississippi State coach wasn’t talking about Mississippi State’s game against South Alabama. He was referring to Shumpert’s game against Okolona. Mullen watched Shumpert in person for the first time.
“I tried not to think about it but it was in the back of my head though,” Shumpert said.
Ole Miss kept close contact too. Rebels coach Hugh Freeze, running backs coach Derrick Nix and co-offensive coordinator Matt Luke have also been in recent contact with the recruit.
Shumpert made his debut two weeks ago and has racked up 354 yards on 30 carries and five touchdowns. He also has 12 tackles and an interception.

Hammerin’ Lady Aggies
The Kossuth Lady Aggies have wrapped up the No. 2 slowpitch playoff seed and no team wants to play them in Kossuth.
It’s 220 feet to center field and Steve Lyles team can hit it well over any part of the wall.
Kossuth (12-9) has hit 58 home runs. Kristen Devers has14 and Jordan Dickson has 11.
“When we play at home we just have better luck hitting the long ball. That’s basically been our gameplan all year. We try to hit the long ball,” Lyles said. “We practice it and tell them to swing as hard as you can and see how far you can hit it.”
Kossuth will travel to either Leflore or Leland when the playoffs open on Oct. 9.

Championship Wave to be honored
The only Tupelo team to capture a football state championship will be recognized during the Golden Wave’s Oct. 12 game against South Panola. THS is inviting all members of that team to the game, as well as to the THS alumni tent at the tailgate event.
