Ole Miss relief pitcher Brett Huber, who earned two saves in the Rebels’ sweep of rival Mississippi State, has been named the SEC’s pitcher of the week.
The redshirt freshman from Belleville, Ill., tossed five innings over three appearances without giving up an earned run. He struck out nine, walked one and allowed three hits.
Huber earned a win in two innings of work against Murray State, then picked up saves in Game 1 and Game 2 of the MSU series.
In Game 1, entered with a man on in the eighth, and while he allowed an inherited runner to score, he gave up no runs of his own and absorbed two hits and struck out five.
In Game 2, he protected a two-run lead in the ninth, setting the Bulldogs down in order, one by strikeout.
For the season Huber is 2-0 with a 2.68 earned run average and seven saves. He’s pitched 37 innings in 23 games.
