Relief pitchers Brett Huber of Ole Miss and Tupelo native Lex Rutledge of Samford were named to the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America team, as selected by Collegiate Baseball newspaper.
Huber picked up 12 saves – 11 against SEC opponents – with a 2-0 record and a 3.54 ERA. He struck out 54 with 19 walks in 48 1/3 innings. His 30 relief appearances set an Ole Miss record.
Rutledge tied a Samford record with 11 saves to go with a 5-1 record and a 1.71 ERA. He led the Bulldogs in strikeouts with 65 in 47 1/3 innings against 19 walks.
Two of Rutledge’s saves came against Alabama.
Huber tied for 10th nationally in saves; Rutledge tied for 20th.
