FULTON – With college football season less than two months away the Itawamba Community College football team got a shot of motivation when they received the No. 19 preseason ranking by JCGridiron.com.

“This is a great honor coming from an organization with the reputation that JCGridiron has had over the years,’ said Coach Jon Williams. “There has been a lot of hard work put into the program over the past few years to be able to put us in the position to earn preseason honors.”

The Indians closed out the 2012 season with a 24-23 victory over then defending national champion and No. 3 East Mississippi Community College to 6-3 on the year.

“Hopefully this ranking will help motivate the guys to work harder and build on the success of last season and it into bigger and better things this season,” said Williams, who is entering his fourth season as head coach of the Indians.

Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College earned the top spot while East Mississippi comes in at No. 6 and Northwest Mississippi Community College picked up the No. 21 spot to round out Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) in the preseason poll.

“Having four teams earn preseason rankings is a testament to how tough this league truly is,” Williams commented. “They call this league the ‘Little SEC’ for a reason because there easily could have been six or maybe even seven teams in these rankings.”

The JCGridiron.com Dirty Thirty Junior College Team Rankings is in its eighth season. The rankings reflect the performance on the field, the strength of that programs conference, team records, players in key positions and input from Brad Hoiseth and the staff at JCGridiron.com.
