FULTON – Itawamba Community College football team has made a strong impression on the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) voters with their first 3-0 start since the 2007 football season.

The Indians (3-0, 1-0 MACJC North) jumped eight spots in the latest NJCAA Top 20 poll to the No. 12 slot following their 39-9 road win against Mississippi Delta Community College (0-3, 0-1 MACJC North).

“We greatly appreciate the respect the voters are giving our program,” said ICC head football Jon Williams. “The guys have worked extremely hard this season and it means a lot to see all their hard work and dedication being recognized nationally.”

East Mississippi Community College (3-0, 0-0 MACJC North) slipped to the No. 4 spot as Northwest Mississippi Community College (2-0, 1-0 MACJC North) moved to No. 6 while Hinds Community College (2-1, 0-1 MACJC South) fell to No. 16 after its loss to this week’s new No. 1 Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (3-0, 1-0 MACJC South).

“Having five teams in our league ranked speaks volumes on how tough the competition is from one week to the next,” said Williams. “You have to be ready for everybody because there are teams in our league that could just as easily be in any of those spots in the rankings.”

This week’s NJCAA poll is the first poll to include the Football Computer Rankings, which is worth 33-percent of the poll with the other 67-percent coming from human voters.

ICC continues to climb up the JC Girdiron Dirty 30 moving up three spots to No. 16 in this week’s poll.

The Indians will play host to Holmes Community College (1-2, 1-0 MACJC North) at 7:00 p.m. Thursday.
