FULTON – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), the governing body of collegiate tennis, has released its preseason rankings for the upcoming tennis season and the Itawamba Community College men’s tennis team is ranked number 11 amongst the nation’s top junior and community colleges.
The number 11 ranking is the highest preseason ranking in the storied history of the ICC men’s tennis program.
“This is our highest preseason rating,” said ICC Hall of Fame tennis coach Paul Johnson. “It’s mighty generous and I hope it motivates our players to try and live up to that type of rating because it’s a strong rating in the NJCAA.”
The ITA also released its Top 90 men’s singles in the nation and the reigning Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) champions found five members of the team in the rankings: Ethan Wilkerson, No. 26; Leo Prudencio, No. 50; Alex Thomas, No. 67, and Josh Fulgham No. 80.
Wilkerson and Fulgham received the No. 17 national ranking in men’s doubles while Prudencio and Wesley Raines are ranked No. 33.
In April, ICC won its fifth MACJC Championship since 2000.
