FULTON – ICC will open its 2010 soccer season with heavy hearts on Saturday against perennial power Jones County Junior College as they honor the memory of fallen teammate Anna McCoy.
“We are still feeling the sting from losing Anna,” said ICC soccer coach Mike Sullivan. “We have her in our thoughts all the time when we are out there. We are looking forward to celebrating her memory and hopefully have a good game in her honor.”
There will be a moment of silence, followed by former teammates reflecting on the memories of their beloved teammate, and will conclude with the 2009 and 2010 soccer teams’ special presentation for Anna’s parents Alison and Jimmy McCoy.
The women will kick things off at 1:00 p.m. with the guys scheduled to follow at 3:00 p.m. at the ICC Soccer Complex on the Fulton campus of Itawamba Community College.
“Both teams are really excited and ready to play someone other than each other,” said Sullivan. “We had a great ‘Meet the Indians’ last week to get us fired up for the final preparations for the season and hopefully we’ll be ready when Jones comes to town.”
ICC will return to the pitch on Tuesday, August 31 against Union University starting at 2:00 p.m. before hitting the road for a weekend stretch against Pearl River and Gulf Coast on September 3-4.
