ICC softball sweeps to North Division title

FULTON –The Itawamba Community College softball team claimed its second straight MACJC North Division title with Monday’s doubleheader sweep of East Mississippi.
The Lady Indians (31-12-1,18-6) won 8-0 and 3-0. Rebecca Sloan (14-4)
threw a no-hitter in the first game, recording four strikeouts to become the career strikeout leader (104) at ICC. In the second game, Dani Taylor relieved Montana Hawkins with two outs in the sixth inning and set a school record with her seventh save of the season.
“You can’t say enough about our pitchers,” said ICC head coach Andy Kirk.
“Game in, game out they always give us a chance to win.”
Emilee Henderson drove in five runs on Monday, including a two-run homer in the first game.
ICC, the top seed for this week’s state tournament, will play South No. 4 seed Pearl River CC (24-20, 13-11) on Thursday in Lucedale.
