ICC’s Gatlin commits to play baseball at Ole Miss

FULTON – Itawamba Community College head baseball coach Rick Collier announced that sophomore shortstop John Gatlin has committed to play baseball for Coach Mike Bianco and the Ole Miss Rebels next season.

Gatlin batted .331 in 38 starts for the North Division Champion Indians and had a slugging percentage of .424 to go along with a .423 on-base percentage as a freshman. The former Tupelo HS standout was hit by 14 pitches and was second on the team with eight steals on 10 attempts.

“Ole Miss is getting a good player and they are also getting a good person,” said Collier. “John is one of those players that are going to give you everything they can in a game and during practice to not only to make themselves better, but to make the team better as a whole.”

Gatlin was selected Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) All-State honorable mention last season as he helped lead the Indians to a 29-17 record. With his commitment to the Rebels it will mark the ninth-straight year that the ICC baseball program has had a player to take his game to the SEC.
