ICC's Green named MACJC Special Teams Player of the Week

FULTON – Williams Green was announced as the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior College Special Teams Player of the Week for the week one of the 2010 football season.

Green had three kickoff returns for 145 yards; including a 90-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the Indians’ 52-31 season-opening loss to Hinds Community College (1-0, 0-0).

“William is one of our top playmakers and he showed that last week,” said first-year head coach Jon Williams. “His kickoff return was one for the ages.”

The Indians (0-1, 0-0) travel to Poplarville to take on No. 21 Pearl River (0-1, 0-0) tonight. Last week, the Wildcats dropped a 27-17 decision to the No. 15 Northwest Rangers (1-0, 0-0).

“Pearl River is a very talented team,” Williams said. “They muffed three punts inside their own 20 against Northwest. If they don’t make those mistakes, they win the game.”

“We need to improve on third down conversions on both sides of the ball,” Williams said about his team’s performance from last week. “We blocked two kicks and had William’s kickoff return, but we still had some breakdowns in our special teams that gave them better field position that ultimately made the difference in winning and losing.”

The Davis Ford Pregame show will start at 6:40 p.m. on WAFM 95.7 FM before the First American National Opening Kicking at 7:00 p.m. The game can also be heard on the college website www.iccms.edu.
