NEW ALBANY – The senior leadership of Henry Foster and Devonte Williamson helped Ingomar advance to the title match of the Union County Tournament.
The duo of Foster and Williamson combined for 45 points and 18 rebounds to help the Falcons defeat top-seeded East Union 65-62 at Memorial Gymnasium.
“I thought that for the most part I had two seniors that were playing very hard to make sure they had an opportunity to play in the finals,” said Ingomar coach Jonathan Ashley. “Devonte and Henry both made good plays down the stretch.”
Foster scored a game-high 23, including 12 in a row in a crucial fourth-quarter stretch for the Falcons (15-8).
East Union had just taken a 48-46 lead on a Jonathan Valle layup two minutes into the fourth before Foster knocked down three straight 3-pointers.
The latter trey came after a nice hustle play by Sam Cobb in which he stole the ball and flung it back in bounds to Foster while running into the bleachers.
The Urchins hung around and were within two points as late as 20 seconds to play, but Ingomar made just enough free throws to secure its championship date with New Albany tonight.
Williamson had a double-double with 22 points and 11 boards. Vadale Rucker led East Union (13-7) with 18 points and Dontrell Lattimore scored 17.
(G) West Union 35, Ingomar 22: Defense helped the Lady Eagles (15-4) advance to today’s 6 p.m. championship game against host New Albany.
Ingomar (13-9) trailed 18-11 after the first quarter, but West Union held the Lady Falcons scoreless in the second and to a total of only eleven points over the final three periods.
“We’ve worked on effort, determination, and hard work and they’ve proven to me that that’s what they’re going to give me,” said West Union coach Kelly Robbins.
Hannah McQuary and Julianna Garner each scored eight points for the Lady Eagles to lead all scorers.
(B) New Albany 67, Myrtle 58: In the nightcap, Bernard Spight led three New Albany (11-8) double-digit scorers with 15. Robert Montgomery had 23 points for Myrtle (11-9).
