JACKSON — Students and leaders at Jackson State University are congratulating a student who ran in the men’s 200-meter final at the Olympics.

Anaso Jobodwana of South Africa placed eighth in a race that was won by one of his sprinting idols, Usain Bolt of Jamaica.

Jobodwana is a sophomore at JSU.

The Clarion-Ledger reports that about 100 students, alumni and faculty members held a small pep rally for him Wednesday as he returned to campus. JSU President Carolyn Meyers was among those celebrating the student’s performance as one of the world’s fastest runners.

Jobodwana says he appreciates the attention and support.
