New Albany’s Jazmine Spears, the Daily Journal’s 2013 Player of the Year, has enrolled at Trinity Valley (Texas) Community College and will play basketball for the two-time national champions this season.
Spears, who averaged 21.7 points and 14.1 rebounds in five years as a high school starter, signed with Mississippi State, but didn’t qualify academically.
“She’s out there going tp summer school and working out,” New Albany coach John Stroud said.
“It’s where Mississippi State wanted her to go.” Stroud says the 5-foot-11 Spears will likely play forward in college.
Trinity Valley is in Athens, Texas, which is southeast of Dallas.
