Johnson makes move at State Championship

JACKSON – Tupelo High School golfer Fletcher Johnson made a move up at the State Amateur Championship on Friday.
Johnson, who played in the U.S. Amateur last summer, shot a 71 and is in second place at 143, two strokes behind leader Steve WIlson (73) of Ocean Springs.
Rickey Riley of Fulton shot a 74 on Friday and is three strokes back in the tourney at Jackson Country Club. Mississippi State coach Clay Homan is four back after a 71.
Defending champion Johnathan Randolph, an Ole Miss golfer from Brandon, enters the weekend five strokes back after Friday’s 74. He’s tied with ICC standout Alex Rowland, from Houston, who shot a 75.
The field was cut to 60 and the tournament concludes on Sunday.
