Josh Hegwood, 33, has been named Tupelo High School’s head coach in fast-pitch softball for the 2013-14 school year. He has coached football, softball and baseball for eight years at Calhoun City High.
A Bruce native, Hegwood will serve as the Lady Wave assistant coach in slow-pitch softball this fall. He was Calhoun City’s fast-pitch head coach the last four years.
“It’s Tupelo … Tupelo’s been the gold standard,” Hegwood said. “It’s a great opportunity.”
Hegwood says player development is crucial in building any program.
“We’ve got to get in there and work together,” he said. “Building team unity is a challenge. I want to create my own program.”
Will Stafford is Tupelo’s slow-pitch head coach and will assist Hegwood.
