BIRMINGHAM, AL – Itawamba Community College opened the 2010-11 basketball season on the road in Birmingham, Alabama against Lawson State Community College in front of a packed house at Wenonah High School.
The Lady Indians (1-0, 0-0) jumped out to a commanding 42-17 lead at the break before the Lady Cougars (0-1, 0-0) found its rhythm midway through the second half to pull the final score into a more respectable 31-point deficit.
Anna Dill paced the Lady Indians with 15, Jameika Hoskins 13, Ebony Williams 12, and LaPrecious Naylon added 11 points in the victory.
Ashley Myles led Lawson State with 18 points.
ICC battled their way to a 44-36 halftime lead, but in a back-and-forth second half the Indians saw Lawson State hit its free throws down the stretch to pull away for an 84-74 victory in the nightcap.
Todd Nelson led the Indians (0-1, 0-0) with 18, Melvin Morgan 17, and Wendell Williams added 10 points.
Worrell Clahar led the Cougars (1-0, 0-0) with 19 points.
ICC will hit the road on Thursday to take on Copiah-Lincoln. The Lady Wolfpack (1-0, 0-0) entered the season ranked number three in the nation by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).
