A long season for the Blue Mountain College women either ends tonight or carries on with a stunning upset, as the Lady Toppers face the nation’s top-ranked team in the TranSouth tournament.
Blue Mountain (7-23, 2-14) visits No. 1-ranked Union University (29-1, 16-0) in the TranSouth quarterfinals tonight, with tipoff scheduled for 7.
Union, which has spent 24 straight weeks atop the women’s NAIA poll, already owns a pair of wins over Blue Mountain this season, including a 108-44 home win last Thursday.
The Lady Bulldogs of Union are led by TranSouth Conference Player of the Year Josephine Owino, a 6-foot-4 senior who averages 18.5 points per game.
Joy Pierce, a sophomore from Byhalia, leads Blue Mountain with a 12.1-point average.

Belhaven at William Carey: No. 5 seed Belhaven (17-13, 8-10) visits No. 4 William Carey tonight in the quarterfinals of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Women’s tournament.
The two teams split their home-and-home series this year, with Belhaven claiming a 72-55 decision at home and William Carey earning a 73-68 win in Hattiesburg.
Belhaven’s men (17-12) visit Loyola on Thursday.
Tougaloo at Xavier: Top-seeded Xavier (22-8) will welcome Tougaloo (10-20) in the first round of the GCAC tourney tonight at 7 in New Orleans. The Gold Nuggets of Xavier swept the season series.
The Tougaloo men (20-8) are home Thursday night against William Carey/Mobile.
Delta State: The Gulf South Conference tournament will open today in Southaven. The Lady Statesmen (23-6) are aiming for fourth straight GSC championship and play on Thursday against today’s West Alabama-Harding winner.
DSU’s men (20-7) will face Alabama-Huntsville on Friday.
