WALNUT – The Class 2A Walnut Lady Wildcats have flown under the radar most of the year, but that’s OK with seventh-year head coach Larry Tribble, just as long as his squad keeps winning.
Monday night, the Lady Wildcats did just that to keep their post season going.
Three days after winning the first division title under Tribble, the Div. 2-2A No. 1 seeded Lady Wildcats won easily over visiting Riverside, 56-20.
“I hope teams don’t spend but five minutes on us,” said Tribble, who’s guided the team to a 23-7 record. “We’ve got kids that can play.”
Against Riverside, the Lady Wildcats scored the first 10 points of the game and never looked back. Six of the points came from Taylor Doyle, who finished with 10.
A steal and layup by Presley Pulse for the final shot of the first half, gave Walnut a 27-7 lead at the break. Pulse led with 13 points.
Now the Lady Wildcats will look to get past the North state quarterfinal set for Thursday at New Site.
“We’re at the same point we were last year, but we’re more experienced,” said Tribble, who starts five seniors. “If we get beat now, the team will just be better than us.”
