Legal problems force DSU to boot freshman lineman

Delta State dismissed freshman defensive lineman Charles Tigue on Friday after learning of his legal difficulties in Illinois.
Tigue and his cousin, Marnez Crawford, were charged in March 2009 for the armed robbery in Belleville, Ill., of four people, including a pregnant woman. While awaiting trial, Tigue was not permitted to leave the state.
An Illinois judge adjusted Tigue’s bond on Wednesday to allow him to return to Delta State. But on Friday, DSU announced his dismissal.
“Our coaching staff was not made aware of Mr. Tigue’s current legal status during the recruitment process,” director of athletics Jeremy McClain said in a statement. “We believe it is in the best interests of Mr. Tigue and the University to release the student-athlete at this time.”
