Lipham, Gildon earn weekly MACJC football awards

For the second consecutive week, a player from both Northeast and Itawamba Community have taken home MACJC/ Juco Weekly Player of the Week honors.
Northeast quarterback Matt Lipham was named Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday, while Itawamba linebacker Deryck Gildon earned
defensive honors.
Lipham, a freshman from Slidell, La., completed 24 of 42 passes for 311 yards and three touchdowns, while leading the Tigers (1-1) to a 30-21 win against Jones. Lipham ranks 14th in the nation averaging 201 passing yards.
Gildon, a sophomore from Arlington, Texas, recorded 11 tackles and returned a fumble 62 yards for a touchdown in the Indians’ 22-10 victory against Southwest.
ICC breaks into NJCAA poll: Itawamba (2-0) is tied for 20th in this week’s NJCAA Top 20 poll which was released on Tuesday. It marks the first time since the 2007 season that Itawamba has been ranked by the NJCAA.
Other Mississippi teams in this week’s poll include East Miss. (2-0) at No. 1, Gulf Coast (2-0) at No. 4, Hinds (2-0) at No. 6 and Northwest (1-0) at No. 10.
