Lorenzen Wright death remains unsolved three years later

Crime Stock It’s been three years since the shooting death in Memphis of former NBA player Lorenzen Wright, a crime that remains unsolved.

Wright, who shared Daily Journal Player of the year honors in 1993 while at Lafayette, was apparently shot shortly after midnight on July 19, 2010, based on a 911 call that records 10 gunshots being fired.

His body was located on July 28 in a Germantown field. He was 34.

Born in Memphis and raised in Oxford, Wright played at the University of memphis before being drafted No. 7 overall by the L.A. Clippers in the 1996 NBA Draft. He went on play in 13 NBA seasons, five of those (2001-06) with the Memphis Grizzlies.

The Memphis Flyer newspaper reported this week that the case has grown cold.

“We really haven’t had any leads,” Buddy Chapman, director of CrimeStoppers, told the Flyer. “It’s a total dead-end at this point. It’s one of the strangest cases I’ve ever had anything to do with.”
