RUSTON, La. – Louisiana Tech has introduced 34-year-old Ole Miss assistant Michael White as its new head basketball coach.
White says Wednesday that he never dreamed his first head coaching job would be at a school like Louisiana Tech, which has produced several NBA players including Karl Malone and P.J. Brown.
White succeeds Kerry Rupp, who was fired a week ago after a four-year stint.
Louisiana Tech athletic director Bruce Van De Velde says White’s reputation for recruiting in the region made him a top candidate.
The former Ole Miss player spent seven years as an assistant there. He is the son of Duke athletic director Kevin White.
