Madison Central edged Tupelo in the Clarion-Ledger’s annual All-Sports Award rankings for the second year in a row.
Tupelo won seven state titles to two for M.C., but the Jackson school finished in the top four in 13 sports and finished with a 403.5-394.5 scoring edge.
Tupelo has topped the All-Sports Award rankings 16 times in the 23 years it’s been compiled by the newspaper; Madison Central has
been tops the other seven times.
Tupelo’s state titles in the 2009-10 school year were boys bowling, cross country (boys and girls), boys golf, swimming (boys and girls) and volleyball. Madison Central won its state championships in fast-pitch softball and girls soccer.
Class winners included Lafayette in 4A and Myrtle in 1A.
