The Mississippi State men’s basketball team will play Texas A&M in the opening game of the 2K Sports Classic in New York City, it was announced Wednesday.
The Bulldogs and Aggies will face off Nov. 17 at 6 p.m. Central time in Madison Square Garden, with Arizona vs. St. John’s to follow. The winners play the next night following the 3:30 p.m. consolation game. All games will be televised by ESPN2.
MSU and A&M have split their previous two meetings, the most recent being in 1966, when the Bulldogs won 62-49 in Hattiesburg. The Aggies won 58-54 in a 1963 game in Houston.
Last season, Texas A&M went 24-9, including 10-6 in Big 12 play, and reached the NCAA tournament. MSU was 17-14 and missed the postseason.
The 2K Sports Classic, which benefits Coaches vs. Cancer, also has subregional and regional rounds – that is, home games for the four teams that will be in New York. For MSU, those games are set for Nov. 7 and 9, with the opponents not yet determined.
