As Texas officials put a halt to all public high school competitions on Wednesday due to the swine flu outbreak, sports officials in Mississippi are watching carefully.
“We’re monitoring the situation very closely,” MHSAA Executive Director Dr. Ennis Proctor said Wednesday. “Anytime you see one of your sister states shut their programs down, you have to keep it in the forefront of what you’re doing.”
“We’ll make adjustments. You hate for it to come to that but the safety of your student athletes has to come first.”
With only a couple of weeks left in the spring sports season, Proctor said MHSAA hopes to finish the academic school year without any sinificant postponements.
