The Lady Warriors defeated Bay 58-41 last season on their way to the state championship. … Pontotoc has eight starters back from that title team, but not Journal Player of the Year Quinn Ford. … The Lady Warriors, who beat Raymond 55-42 in the state semifinals, bring a 20-game win streak into today’s battle for the gold ball. … Bay has two preseason all-state players in Christa Reed and Breta Hart. Reed scored 28 points in team’s 74-31 semifinals win against North Pontotoc.

Bay has the size and firepower to handle just about anything. It will interesting to see what scheme Pontotoc coach Bill Russell has devised.

Booneville is in its third straight Class 3A state championship game, winning it all two years ago. … The Blue Devils have eight seniors, two in Kenny Paul Geno and Jordan Miller who played significant minutes in both previous title contests. … Jack Nichols is a PG converted from power forward and has emerged as a key finisher. …Velma Jackson beat Booneville 42-40 in the North championship game. …Geno is one of the state most sought after recruits and arguably the state’s best dunker.

For Booneville to win its second state title in three years, the Blue Devils will either have to force Velma to play fast or beat the Falcons at their own slow pace. Velma slowed down a 42-40 North championship win.
