Minor League baseball opens up, too

Minor league baseball teams, including the Double-A Mississippi Braves in Pearl, will begin play tonight.
The Braves, 61-79 last season, open with a 10-game Southern League homestand at Trustmart Park, with five games each against Mobile and Montgomery.
Aaron Holbert is the team’s new manager. The Braves roster includes a top Atlanta prospect, catcher Christian Bethancourt.
The Triple-A Memphis Redbirds, 77-66 last season, open the season on the road at Oklahoma City and will begin their home schedule on Friday, April 13. AutoZone Park will boast the largest HD videoboard in minor league baseball, measuring 60 by 60 feet and weighing more than 20 tons.
Ron Warner is the new Memphis manager after five seasons at Double-A Springfield.
The Redbirds’ roster will include the top prospect in the St. Louis organization, pitcher Shelby Miller. A first-round draft pick in 209, he went 9-3 with a 2.77 ERA in 12 Double-A starts last season.
