Miss. State gets ready for kick off

Game week begins today for Mississippi State, sort of.
As it prepares for its season opener against Jackson State, MSU’s routine won’t be quite what it is after that first game. For instance, there is no practice today, but there will be Monday. Throughout the season, the team will practice Sunday and be off Monday.
However, first-year coach Dan Mullen will hold his weekly press conference on Monday, and the Bulldogs will have mid-afternoon practices throughout the week.
The players are itching to kick off the Mullen era. The opener is set for 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Davis Wade Stadium and will be broadcast on ESPNU.
“We’ve been practicing a long time now,” junior offensive tackle Derek Sherrod said, “and I think that it’s finally clicked, and we’re ready to go for this season.”
