Miss. State, Ole Miss women basketball in action

- Mississippi State’s women travel to Cincinnati today for a 1 p.m. tipoff against No. 1-ranked Xavier, int heir last game before a long holiday break
The Lady Bulldogs (8-3) enter the game having won four in a row, including victories against Samford and Mississippi Valley State last week. They’re led by senior guard Alexis Rack, who’s averaging 20.4 points per game – second in the SEC – to go with 4.0 assists per game.
Xavier (7-2), of the Atlantic 10, won its first seven games of the season before dropping its last two, to Michigan and Michigan State. The Musketeers are paced by 6-foot-5 junior Amber Harris, who averages 14.2 points and 7.9 rebounds per game.
Xavier beat MSU in Starkville last season, 51-42.
MSU returns to action Dec. 30 at home against Alcorn State – the team’s last game of 2009 and last tuneup before SEC play begins.

- OXFORD – The Ole Miss women’s basketball team plays its final game before the Christmas holidays this afternoon at 1 p.m. as Winston-Salem State visits Tad Smith Coliseum.
All fans who bring two canned goods to the coliseum will receive free admission.
Ole Miss (7-4) will be looking for its second consecutive victory after a 73-72 win at Memphis on Friday night.
Bianca Thomas leads the SEC in scoring (21.9) and 3-pointers (3.8 per game) and her team in rebounds (5.9). She’s also third in the league in assists (5.3).
Winston-Salem State (2-7) has lost five straight games.
Ole Miss returns to action on Dec. 29 at home against Centenary in its final pre-SEC tuneup.
