Miss. State women's golf coach announces retirement

STARKVILLE — Mississippi State University women’s golf coach Christi Sanders says the 2009-10 season will be her final one.

Her retirement is effective on June 30, 2010.

Sanders has served as golf coach for 22. She has been named district coach of the year once and Southeastern Conference coach of the year twice. She is the longest-tenured head coach on the MSU coaching staff.

Sanders has had her team in five regionals from 2000-2006. Four times one of her student-athletes earn all-America recognition and 17 of her golfers won all-SEC recognition.

A native of Hattiesburg, Sanders earned both her bachelors and masters degrees from Mississippi State. As a player, Sanders won the 1992 Mississippi Women’s Golf Association State Amateur Tournament title.
